The charity quilts we do for the children's hospital are all 39x39 finished - 5x5, 5" blocks with a border. go with the square #2 option.

I'm with most of the rest here...."Option B". A square will go from a crib to a lap, easily....

a.) Remove a couple of rows to make it shorter.
b.) Remove the rows and add them to the width to make the quilt square. (45x45)
c.) Leave it the way it is.

I don't have the option of adding another row to make it wider while leaving the length.
B would be my answer to it.

I would add borders to the sides. I hate ripping.

I think B would be the better option, so even though it may be more squared, it's a great size for baby to play on the floor with it, or a nice size for a cuddle quilt.

I was an English major for a reason so I feel your pain. I like baby quilts to be square because when they are laid on the floor for baby to play on, it works out best-- JMHO.

Option A is my choice because I like rectangular quilts. But option B is another good choice. froggyintexas
