and then there was the time that you are cutting everything exactly as the pattern is written and suddenly a little bell goes off in your brain that says wait this can't be correct.....you read the pattern again and the pattern in the book is wrong............i really hate when this happens

Murphy's Law states.........if you start out cutting your fabric wrong, fold up your cutting board, close your rotary blade and go to your local quilt store for the afternoon. It will be a lot cheaper in the long run.

In an attempt to teach a friend how to quilt...she's a bit resistant, I'm trying to instill this theory in her!

For example, "Are you sure these two sides need to be sewn together? Lay them down and open them. We'll see if they are indeed placed correctly." They weren't, but I knew that. "Measure twice, even three times before you cut."

COUNT more than once too. At least if you're like me... I thought I had enough fabric so I cut an extra WOF 4 1/2" figuring if I made a mistake I'd have a couple extra pieces ...

but I miscounted and when I went to match up the half-square triangle components I had only 9 - not 12 - 4 7/8" pieces so now I have to go buy more fabric.

Ah the inside-out problem. I suffered from that with about half of what I pieced when I started. It was awful. Once I sewed two rows together wrong, then ripped it all out, then did it AGAIN. I sympathize with your friend. Please be patient with her until she gets how to look at each pair of pieces and THINK

Today I worked on a Christmas gift for my husband - a lap quilt with train fabric - he's crazy for trains. So how did one set of 5 1/2" squares end up 5" X 5 1/2"? Tell me that, please! The quilt shop WAS open - I got there 5 minutes before they closed the doors.

Personally I think the gypsies did it. Or the Boogey Man. Or the Fairies. SOMEBODY besides ME!

What's that old saying......."I've cut this piece of fabric 3 times, and it's STILL too short!" done it too many times myself!
