I was out at an estate sale today and this man had tons of 100% cotton dress shirts. All were Large and in new or like new condition. Has anyone ever made quilts with men's shirts? I did buy a few, but may have to go back tomorrow since he had such a variety.

Bonnie Hunter, quiltville.com, makes quilts out of shirts all the time. Remeber what our "fore-mothers" used for quilts, what ever they had on hand.

I say go for it! I've seen plenty of quilts using mens shirts that I really liked! Perhaps some people will show you theirs?

Have a friend who made a 9 patch quilt using plaid shirts that were her hubby's shirts. He began the quilt when he became ill and asked her to finish it to remember him by after he was in heaven. I had the pleasure of helping her complete it. She even used some of the shirt pockets in the 9 packet.
    Wonderful fabrics.

here is a link to one that I bookmarked.

My husband is 6'5" and his shirts are very expensive and difficult to find in his size. They also tend to rip at the elbows which is so frustrating. I refuse to throw out a $65 shirt b/c the elbows ripped. He will be getting a king sized quilt of dress shirts in the future.

MaryAnn Fons (Fons and Porter fame) uses what she calls shirting fabric in her quilts all the time. Same thing except hers is yardage I would think.

stores are selling shirtings for quite a bit these days- the best place to get over a yard of fabric (some shirts have almost 3 yards of usable fabric) for a very reasonable price.
quilters have throughout history been (thrifty) and recycle everything to make beautiful quilts- no reason to not take advantage of such a good deal.

I made one out of a variety of men's plaid & striped shirts.

You can see it here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-131269-1.htm
