Default Mentor needed

I need one person who is willing to mentor me. I started quilting in 1992, but gave it up and started again 2 years ago. I have too many UFOs. Too too many. I have lots of questions about piecing my quilts. I need someone who could be helpful and cheer me on and maybe get me off my bum and start sewing and catch me up with my sewing. I haven't sewn a lick in two weeks. I don't even bind my own quilts. I need someone to help me want to bind them. Things like that is why I need a sponsor.
12 step programs have sponsors and sponsors help the new people straighten out and learn the program but really the sponsors get so much out of helping the new person. I'm thinking that this would help someone with a lot of time and experience. By helping me and prodding me, you will prod yourself and get you to learn new things and sew more.
I don't need someone to coax me everyday. Maybe once every week or two. Maybe answer questions once a week.
I know we have the board for this, but it would be nice to have one person to trust who I know would know where I was in my projects and what kind of projects I have and how much I know about quilting. It would be nice to be able to trust them with my lack of knowledge and not be embarrassed what I don't know. I wouldn't become a pest. It might be that after a month or two, we might become friends and I won't be such a pain anymore.
Anyone out there want to do this?

I agree that this kind of one-on-one guidance and camaraderie would be extremely helpful, especially without real assistance or gentle nudging in person. If you have more than one person interested in helping you, maybe you could direct one of them my way to chat...?

I agree with you 100%! I need a mentor in person. No matter how I measure, cut, line up, sew a seam, make a block, the next block is not the same. Multiply that into a whole quilt.
I am at the point where I no longer want to do that kind of quilting.
No matter how I try, the quilt becomes such a burden: sew, rip, sew, rip....
I've read books, magazines, on line tips, this board and I still cannot do these things so my blocks will "line up." Even when I square up the blocks, they are not the same! Oh, I can't sew a straight line even though I use the proper foot, an edge on the machine to guide it, etc.

Good luck to you, jcrow! I wish I could help.

Ask at your LQS .... many stores have regular Sit and Sew sessions, where you bring in projects and get help from a group leader and often times within the group itself. If they don't offer it, maybe they would.

Virtual help is good, though sometimes IRL can be better.

We used to have an adoption program here, remember that? Experienced quilters would adopt newer quilters? dphelps started it. http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...ed-t59476.html

Real life help for actual quilting problems is much better than virtual help, QuiltE is right about that, but the motivation issues have to be dealt with from within. Have you explored all of the myriad of websites that offer help for motivation, artists block, and stuck in the mud problems?
