metalic thread
I am a very basic intermediate quilter. I want to try using metallic thread. Is it strong enough to use as the top thread for FMQ? would it stand up to being washed? Can it be ironed over? My first attempt will be a wall hanging. What brands would you recommend and why, what brands would you not recommend and why. Thank you all in advance.

I FMQ in metallic all the time and second Superior. I use a 50wt cotton in the bobbin. You'll be surprised at how low you have to dial the top tension to get it right. I recently tried Superior's Titanium needles - size 14/90 and quite liked them, although I'm not sure yet if the extra expense is justified.
The red is a Superior gold - the photo doesn't show it, but the white is also quilted with an iridescent thread.

I tried metallic thread once and had no luck. I recently made 4 Christmas tree skirts and used Glide thread. It's got a nice sheen to it and looks metallic, but was much easier to work with. The colors I used were Dijon (like a bright gold) and Sand (a softer shade of gold). They have other colors that also look metallic. Here is my post about it:
