Love love the Otts and you can get very good prices at their website www.ottlite.com. I also have the magnifier and it is perfect for close work

It's good to know that there is an alternative available.

I use it everyday, late Spring to early Autumn, in my living room, it's a dark room.

Both give terrific light, in my opinion.
I like my halogen lights as well. The two I have are infinitely adjustable. I have one next to my chair for hand work and one that I can move around in my sewing room if needed. I usually only work there in daylight hours so regular lighting for me is okay there. I also have halogens as under cabinet lighting in my kitchen. Won't ever go back! I agree they get a bit warm but the light they give off is well worth it!
