I did a baby rag quilt using minkee for one side, flannel for the other, no batting. I used the pre-cut 5" minkee squares, so didn't need to sew an X, but it came out really cute. If I were going to use larger squares, I would probly do as others suggested, use spray basting or elmers to hold together, and a walking foot. At the time I made mine, I didn't even have or know what a walking foot was, have one now with my newer machine though!

Exactly what Altairss said but I will add these do get heavy, but using the 2 layers of flannel you do get the rag look. So cute! So soft! So worth it! I have also done one with a combination on top of cotton, chenille, flannel and minkee.

Minkey also sheds terribly on the cut edges. I would make your rag quilt and back it with it. Makes a soft quilt and I have used batting with it. But I found that the spray dates didn't adhere very well. So I would pin it too. Never had trouble quilting on it.
