I would mix, and I always wash.

I would mix them. I mix all kinds of fabric. I do not prewash.

I fix batiks with prints of solids a lot. If I like them together...then they go together. I prewash everything.

Absolutely. I create many quilts from my stash which includes all types of quilting fabrics. Mixing the two types of fabrics will provide textures and variations in color.

If you're asking because you need a solid black to set off your batiks, RJR now has a solid black batik. Keepsake Quilting has it online for less than $10 a yard, but other places also sell it. RJR Fabrics Blossom line, 3142-001 solid black.

I haven't tried it yet, but definitely will. Personally, I don't like the combination of batik and cotton broadcloth. The difference in thread count is much too drastic for me.

And I prewash everything.
