When you see a quilt, which do you think is MOST important for a gorgeous quilt?

1. Color selection and coordination
2. Complicated pattern
3. TYPE of pattern (strip piecing, applique or paper piece)
4. The intricacy of the finished quilting
5. If it is SQUARED up
6. If it is lump free

Im not talking about it being in a juried show, what appeals and is MOST important to YOU??

I would say #1, but in all honesty...the one choice you have is not there.
That would be...how fast could the person send it to me lol

#1. It's always the color that catches my eyes first then the design.

I suppose when I look at other people's quilts it is colour, followed by design...complexity can be great, but there have been some very simple patterns that have outshone some of the more "detailed" designs. Intricacy of the quilting can be fantastic, but there have been some simple big stitch examples that have been outstanding.

As for squaring up and lump free....well I am critical of my own if they are not "up to scratch", but I don't look for that in the work of others.

Don't think I really have a "method" for deciding what's gorgeous....just what appeals at the time.
