There have been several mug rug exchanges here on the board, too. Just type 'mug rug' into the search box and see what comes up. Read through the threads...and mostly near the end where everyone starts sharing pics of what they created or received. Some very talented folks in this group!

I made both my mother's 2 surviving sisters a set of 4. One with Dresden plates and another with a fan. They were the finished size of 6x9. I attached a pocket to each one with a wrapped cookie in the pocket and a napkin. I got the napkins at an estate sale. Happened to be the colors and inspiration for the mug rugs. The one has 3 daughters and the other has one daughter and 2 daughters-in-law. They all loved them. Then one of my cousins asked if I would make some for a shower for each guest as a favor. NOPE! Told them they couldn't afford it.

Pull out an orphan block and fix it up!

Just rugs, no mugs? If you have a mug, too, determine color and design to match the mug.

I think the idea of checking for what the approximate size range that is wanted would be good.

I always make mine about 8"x10"... room for a mug and a snack!

I don't do this, because quite simply, I'm a bit lazy. But you can gussy mug rugs up to be multifunctional. Add small pockets for tea bags or sweetener packets, make a sleeve for a spoon, as other mentioned leave room for a snack.
