When you make your mug rugs and give a mug with it as a gift do you purchase your mug first? Does it matter to you or are you just giving a mug rug?

When I want to match the theme of the mug or whatever to what I am making I purchase the item first.

Mug rug out of what ever is around. Then the mug. Then add a couple tea bags.

I've been finding mugs and matching up my stash for the rugs. I was able to use several orpahn blocks too. Just added some side pieces to make them a little longer. I love when I can use those, they seemed such a waste.

If I were to give it to someone with a mug, I personally would purchase the mug first and match fabric to it.

Giving to female family members that are part of a gift exchange. There are 10 of us. I'm making the "rugs" and then hope to find a suitable mug. I made a tag with the poem someone here wrote and clip art of a mug and a muffin and pinned it to the rug. I plan to put in single serve coffees, hot cocoa or tea bags depending on who I am giving it to. Now my daughter has decided she wants 10 for teacher gifts and she'll buy a mug at the dollar store and add some hot cocoa. It won't cost a lot since I have plenty of fabric.
