i always use warm and natural in my table runners.

On table toppers I use thin cotton...just for body. Personally I wouldn't recommend not using anything.

I use a low loft batting and it quilts nicely, but I can put hot items and/or candles on it without any problem.your table runner is very nice. Thanks for sharing.

You could use felt. BTW, I have just a little bit of your poinsettia fabric and it is soooo pretty. I now see what I can do with a tiny bit! Thanks for sharing.

If you want it to have some body, but not be so thick use a layer of flannel instead of batting. It works well.
