I finally made some Dresden Plate blocks...and I got a little carried away and made so many blocks, there may be three queen sized quilts in the future! I don't know what got into me...I cut so many without any thought as to how many I needed for the quilt top - so I placed a few on a large piece of white material, did a little appliqueing..and now quilting. Will post a pic as soon as I have it all completed. As for the 'orphans' waiting for a place on a quilt, they are in my clear tub along with many other blocks waiting for a new home on yet another quilt. Eventually, I will create a design for them all!

I love the dresden plate as well. Our quilting guild made a beautiful one a few years ago for the yearly raffle and I loved it so much that I copied it and made one for myself. I would have loved to win the one the guild made but, alas, that didn't happen. Anyway, good luck with your quilt and since you said you're new at this...... hoping you will enjoy quilting for many years to come. Perhaps some others will post their dresdens for all of us to drool over.

Thanks--I have always loved purple--any shade or value. Hah, if patience was money, I'd have a bigger sewing room and more fabric on hand. Heck, if patience was money, I'd have a long arm quilting machine.

Maryellen, I couldn't agree more.

I can certainly see how that could happen. Using a wedge template makes it so easy to cut pieces. It is easy to just keep on going. You may be very happy one day that you have all those extras.

Never enough purple...Since I'm sewing these by hand, a whole quilt top may take me a while. But that's OK. By then I'll be really ready to take on the quilting. That's the fun of quilting--so much variation. Just when you get tired of one activity, there is always another. Never monotonous; always enjoyable.

I know what you mean. Dresdens, grandmother's fans, and even grandmother's flower garden--they are all so traditional. It is like reaching into history when we work on them. At one time I thought quilting was a dying art--but now I believe it will live on forever. And that is a good thing.
