Ohhhh I'd love to have a treadle machine or a feather weight. I see some once inna while but out of my price range. You sure got a great buy on this machine. It's so pretty. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

You realize that the 201 is one of Singer's most coveted machines. All vintage lovers are looking for one. It may be Singer's finest machine. Congratulations.

The Singer company kept good records and the serial number will date it - except for a few lost records. Here is the site. After you look it up on the left column, use the right column to go to the next page and get more info. http://www.singerco.com/support/machine-serial-numbers She was born in Nov 1956 in Elizabethport, NJ, so it's not a very old machine. Happy sewing.

I recently picked up a Singer 201-3 (free to a good home) and mine is made in 1947. The 201 came in four slightly different models. Yours looks to be the 201-2 with the potted motor. Mine has the belt driven motor. The 201 also came as a treadle. I'm loving mine because it will stitch through heavy denim and does not growl, jam or break needles when sewing in zippers in my DH's heavy duck coveralls. I'm also planning on dropping the feed dogs and using it for FM quilting.
