Definitely a Carpenter's wheel on the wall. They used different shades of colors to make up the sections (or shaded fabric, quilted to look as if it's separate pieces). Very pretty!

All, I have no idea where the original of the picture comes from. I screen capped it from Quiltposim, Fall 2011, pp.70-71. http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/...a3#/68a938a3/1

The Quick LeMoyne Star pattern has a variation like the one I was looking for! http://www.jankrentz.com/free-lesson.php It's at the end of the file.

Looking for more pictures yielded this info "Many quilters will recognize the inspiration for this design as the traditional Dutch Rose block, also called Carpenter's Wheel or Broken Star. Here, the design has been transformed to use simple blocks based on half-square triangles, rather than the usual 45 degree diamonds. A second round of "petals" completes the design, hence its name: Double Dutch Rose. " http://piecebynumber.com/doubledutchrose.htm
This site has some awesome patterns. Thanks.
