“Set on point within the block” was probably not the best way for me to describe the differences between the blocks. The point, however, is that there are differences. They are not just the same block with differences in color value placement.

I have yet to find a close match to the red and white block. In my Jinny Beyer book, there is a Winding Ways block that has a very small center block and there is a block called Spirit of 1849 with a larger center block but no corner triangles.

Study these pictures. The red and white quilt is one Pasty's mother-in-law made for her 1957 wedding. I think the block is the same pieces as the earlier quilt, but just arranged differently. What do you think? I know the homemaker of that era had to be creative, whether it be with food or fabric, everything was used, nothing was wasted.

Notice in one quilt the pieces curves inwards and the other one
curves outwards. Maybe you could contact Barbara Brackman.
She's in expert in this historical quilts and has access to more resources than most of us.
