Need advice how to make a block with a diamond in the center....
Hello, I realized when I designed this quilt layout that I was causing myself a lot of work with the pieced borders/sashings between the blocks. EQ7 is making them using a 1 5/8 diamond and adding triangles to each corner but I know there's got to be an easier way to make a strip of these blocks using strips sewn together and then slicing them at a 45 degree angle. Here's the layout so you can see where I'm going with this. Its all the dark borders with diamonds in the center. I just don't know what size to cut the strips to make them come out 5.5 unfinished since they'll be cut at an angle. Ideas, suggestions on where to go for these measurements would be greatly appreciated. The larger diamond blocks are no problems but those little guys are making me want to pull my hair out. I started cutting the 1 5/8" center squares when I realized how much work that would be and decided to hold off on them until I referred to you all as I know someone here will have the solution to my problem.
What was I thinking when I came up with this layout??????

Unfortunately there is no way to strip piece Seminole piecing which is what you string of diamonds is most commonly referred to. You can partially strip piece but after that it is a lot of piecing and then lining up your diamond units and lopping off the edges. Like is explained in this tutorial

If you google Seminole piecing tutorials you should get other resources as well that may give you other ideas how to piece your layout.

They look like double 4 patches. Two 4 patch blocks with two solid blocks. Then you can add triangles to each side to make your block or set on point As for measurements I don't have the mental capacity to figur that at this moment.

I can't describe this really clearly, but the following picture may show how you'd piece a border with the embedded diamonds using a strip set. You'd trim the piece at the horizontal lines on top and bottom. I know I saw a description on-line somewhere but don't know where.

The other option would be to do a whole bunch of SIAS blocks.
The end look would be the same ... with a coloured square on point.
Just the difference of where the seams will be.
Lovely quilt design ... don't let the "work" deter you from creating it IRL!
