Need Advice from our Aussie Friends
#1
My husband and I are moving to Australia (hopefully in the next two months). We have been working on this for two years and it looks like it is going to finally happen. I need some advice from our QB members in Oz to suggest quilting items I should stock up on before we leave. I hear fabric is very expensive there and have been building my stash but what else should I think of?

Everything!! everything is expensive over here but you can get some good deals occasionally from Spotlight and Textile traders. I havent graduated to online shopping yet but there are a few aussie members here who do shop online and reckon it is cheaper.
whereabouts in Oz are you moving to?
I live in Perth which is in Western Australia and quilting shops are few and far between here. Also with working 3 - 5 days a week it limits how far you want to travel. I look forward to our quilting show each year (which will be here in May) to stock up on a few things and drool over the new machines and notions!

We will be in Adelaide and from what I can see by searching online there are several quilt shops. I will tell my DH what you said about "everything" because he is asking me "why are you buying all this stuff?" LOL

glad to be of help...we have family that live in South Australia both in Adelaide and in Laura (a country town a couple of hours drive out of Adelaide) and not far from Port Pirie.
That is a big move you are undertaking..is this permanent?

We went to work in Canberra for a year in 2008/09 and loved it. Since we got back to the states we have been working on moving back. My husband began job searching, I got the house put up for sale and packed. We thought it would take six months or so and now it is almost two years but it looks like it will happen. I have friends in Melbourne, Adelaide and Canberra of course, all people we have met while there and during the job search. I only started quilting when we got back in 2009 so I read what the Aussie members have to say to see what I have to look forward to.
