Ambitious, thoughtful project. Good luck with it but I'm zero help with the details.

You might try Pinterest. It seems you can find ideas for anything on there. You do have a great idea.

You might want to label each print with whose and when it was made - - - -

Not sure what you have in mind. Is this to be one quilt or several? How many hand prints do you have to work with? If its just one quilt perhaps a family tree in the center and use the hand print blocks for borders?

There are all sorts of cute ideas using handprints on pintrest. Most have to deal with children's handprints in preschools but most are simple and could be easily translated into fabric. The one I first thought of was the one where the hands are cut out and placed downward to resemble a tree. It could be your family tree. Don't forget to add a few nuts.

I remember a friend whose grown daughter asked for a quilt full of her mother's handprints. She said she wanted to wrap herself in her mother's arms, even when she was far away. Her mother outlined her hand and made blocks, where her hand was the center of each and filled up most of the block. She did each handprint in different fabric, I think. It was a bed sized quilt. Not sure if any of this info can help, but I know her mother really loved making the quilt and felt so loved that it had been requested. Her daughter also loved it.

It is just a beautiful idea.
