    Question Need Design Help

I’ve ended up with 36 12” fence rail blocks and I want to make a full size bed quilt. How can I change from a square to a rectangle? Can I add larger boarders top and bottom where I want extra length? I was also thinking of adding sashing.

You didn't say what size you want in inches. If you are going for 84" x 90", you could use 5 blocks across by 7 blocks down giving you 60 x 72 and then add boarders so that it's close to 84 x 90. Keeping in mind that you might want different dimensions, you could make more blocks.

Can do all of the things you mentioned -- is your quilt/project

Depending on the fabrics and thicknesses, a rail fence may or may not react well to being put on point. A setting 5 blocks down x 4 across uses 32 blocks, and would require fabric for the setting triangles. It would (without borders) be roughly 72" x 90".

Lately, I've been putting orphan blocks on the backs of my projects, or I have a lot of leftover fabric from this year's Bonnie Hunter and I am thinking pillow cases/shams...

Yes, you can do it all!
There really are no hard and fast rules.

Consider whether you like what you will get ... if so, then do it!
    Good Luck!

Ooops. I shouldn't try to do math when I'm distracted. That should have been 5 across and 7 down would be 60 x 84. Too much going on right now

Not sure about points either but I’ll consider. I do like the pillow and back for the ‘extra’ blocks. I love the interesting back for sure. Thanks for your ideas!!
