Our guild has a block of the month every other month. The pattern chosen is printed in our newsletter, which is issued every other month. Those that participate get a ticket. You can submit as many blocks as you want, thus increasing you r chances of winning. I have no problem with the patterns, or who wins the blocks, but some people chose the cheapest and ugliest fabrics. I do not participate. One year, we had a terrific person in charge of the block of the month. She provided the pattern and the focus fabric and suggested that coordinating fabrics be chosen from the focus fabric. Needles to say, member participation was great including me. I like Ragamuffin's idea. Sound do-able and fun.

I belong to a large guild with about 140 in attendance each month. We do the BOM like many others in this thread. The kits cost $1.50. You take it home, do it and bring it back the next month. We have a drawing for a few excited winners. This month our Chairman put the blocks on our guild Facebook page. They were ginger jars with Asian fabric. Thirty minutes BEFORE the meeting the line to get blocks was about 10 deep. They were sold out very quickly. I think it was a great idea to publish the newest block on Social media.

Thanks for the great ideas! I now have a co-chair and hopefully between the two of us, we will come up with the program. I am leaning towards doing Donna13350's idea...orphan block (post #2), but will run all these ideas by my co-chair.

Thank you all again for helping!
