what is the backing fabric? I'd be tempted to match that.

I was leaning towards the dark purple too. The backing is just white muslim so I don't think I want that as the binding.

Thanks for all of the great opinions! This is my first quilt and I don't seem to be that good at colors....

I'd choose the dark as I think binding in a dark seals everything in.

Imho, I would use the darker color - blue/plum(?). I think it will show dirt less than a lighter color.
