I've never done any sort of swap before, but it seems pretty interesting. I particularly like the ones where everyone makes a set of blocks then mails them to one person (the host) and that person then sends everyone a set of blocks (if there were 12 people in the swap, then they each make 12 blocks and you get 1 block from each of the 12 people.. so 12 blocks total). I don't really see any swaps like that on here though. Does anyone know of maybe another site that has swaps like that? I've seen a few, but most of the ones I like are either finished or the due date is really soon.

There's always swaps happening on here.... if you wait for this round to finish there'll be another one starting no doubt. :-)

Sometimes people get over-committed and do not do all their blocks. You may want to decide up front what will happen if that is the case... It has happened to me enough that I am leery of swaps where I don't recognize all the names

Right now we're doing a Black and White Block Swap. The due date isn't until July 1st. Check it out and see if you would like to join in.

We also do other things besides blocks. I am in the Green Bag swap now. It would be fun for you to join.

That's really sad.... I'd be gutted if that happened.

I guess it happens in all walks of life, you get people who love the idea of doing, but aren't to good at the actual doing. Then again, there's been times in my life where the world has just stood still and I haven't coped with life in general.

Is there much risk in a swap like the black and white one, where everyone sends 12 blocks in? Logistically, as long as the person organising it is on to it, you will get 12 blocks back at the end, even if they're not as diverse as you would have hoped.

personally, i've had to completely give up on participating in swaps. NOT because i've been "stiffed" or let down in any way by the other players.

it's because i am horribly unreliable about such things. i'm pretty efficient at the office, but when it comes to swaps ... i can't meet a deadline to save my life. :? for example, i made a blocks ages ago for a group quilt. all i had to do was stick it into the mail. BUT, there it sits on my kitchen counter ... and the quilt is long-ago done and sent to the recipient.

the thing is ... there will sometimes be at least one like me in a swap group. that's reality. if you can "play" and not let your feelings get hurt, or be overly disappointed by the me-types, then swaps and other mail-it-in group activities are truly great fun. just don't let "us" ruin it for you.

Here's a new swap on another forum that you might like:

You do take a chance when you join a swap. I don't mind the quality of the project because everyone is at a different level/stage of quilting but what I do mind is flakers (swappers who drop out without letting the others know)
