Our Autism quilt was just puzzle pieces that linked. It looked colorful and was well appreciated.

I have made an autism quilt tracing large floor puzzle pieces and placing them around a solid background. The puzzle piece is the symbol of autism. Also online i found puzzle piece fabric to make pieces with. I also have used a drunkard's path block. These kids with autism do not necessarily follow a straight path through life.

Using different tactile fabrics would be nice as well. Touch is important and different feelings can be soothing.

I think the puzzle piece with different feeling fabrics would be perfect.

Autistic children sometime do well with weighted blankets, so perhaps a quilt that is heavy.

I made a wall hanging last year as a Christmas gift for a
former co-worker who has 2 sons who have Autism.

They have friend who placed orders for some, so far I
have made 4 of these wall hangings.

If my memory serves me correct it measures approx.
18x32 inches and I sold them for $55.

For what it's worth, we carry four puzzle-pieces fabric, including these two:

Go to Hobby Lobby and buy some of their puzzle fabric and make almost any item you want.

In the past, I've made quilts, a teddybear from a log cabin square of puzzle fabric and hand dyed cotton. My DD bought me a cute little "shelf sitter" made from the puzzle fabric. (little gal figure with weighted material in her butt to set on shelf or whereever. I'll take a pic afterawhile.
