Wendy Mathson's Storm at Sea TrimPlates (and book) make this construction much easier. Definitely use the work sheet to color the pieces so you'll know the exact placement.

The Cascade batiks would work really well for you, as they are gradations from light to dark across the WOF.

If you can find a printout of the pattern or even drw on graph paper, place it under thin paper or tracing paper and color -- I would suggest colored pencils. You don't have to redraw each time and you don't have to fill in completely, but you will quickly see what happens as you color a couple of sheets.

someone on here did one with an appliqued eagle on it. The ground turned to sky. It was beautiful. Not mine to post, so just do a search on here for it and you will see. Amazing. I'm going to try it myself one day.

quilterguy27, I looked at every Storm at Sea quilt that came up in my search and every eagle that came up but couldn't find it. Could you post a link please? Thanks, AK

You could draw it out on graph paper & have fun with some colored pencils designing it yourself :)
You can actually find Storm at Sea layouts online that you can color. I'll have to see if I can locate them for you. ;-)

Edit: Oops!! Looks like I'm a dime late and a dollar short!!! So glad someone had the info at the ready!! Good luck to you, and be sure to keep us posted!!!

My bad, I thought it was storm at sea. Turns out it wasn't a particular pattern at all. It was appliqued soaring eagles on a blue background. I thinnk it was shades of blue done in HSTs. No pattern. It sounded good though. I must have imagined it in my own mind. Sorry. I didn't mean to get your hopes up.
