I am getting ready to do one with jungle animals. Lots of that kind of fabric at JoAnn's in the baby fabric. Also, bugs, dinosaurs, cars, trucks etc.
The pattern I am using will be 9 patch block alternated with a snowball block. The snowball block will have different jungle animals embroidered in each one. Then the back will be fabric that is an all over jungle print.
Good luck, be sure to post your finished quilt.
Congrats on the new grandson!!!

You can have everything if you make an I Spy quilt for your baby boy quilt!!!! And when he is older you and his parents can have fun playing the game with him on it.
Here is a pic of the last one I made for a baby boy. :D

When I do a quilt for a baby, I try not to make it too babyish (is that a word?).
The quilt will be adored by mother but as child becomes older he will not want his friends to see that he has a 'baby' quilt.
Make something that can be placed in his room and become a part of the scenery and enjoyed for many, many years and not shoved into a box and put away.

The first was done in various blues and appliqued sailboats for a co-worker. The second was also for a co-worker, she didn't want to know the sex so it was just bright. The third was also for a co-worker. 1 and 3 were for boys.

Check Quilter's Cache - 12" blocks. I am working on Pinwheel #7 right now for a little boy baby. It is darling. Usiing fabric with teeny tiny little dragon flies on it and some swirly fabric in oranges, purples and deep rose colors (perfectly matches the bugs!!!!). There are a lot of ideas there.

Good luck and isn't making baby quilts a lot of fun? My next one is the Depression pattern and I am making an "I Spy" design on it for a little girl baby with puppies, and apples, and acorns and all different things - usable later to teach the child "I Spy".
