Do you have a LQS or Walmart? I take it you are new to quilting since you ask where to buy basic quilt supplies. If you have a Joanns or Hancocks in your area they would probably have the best selection. Even the best of tools do not produce exact measurements unless you use them correctly. I didn't mean to thwart your efforts; perhaps I misunderstood your basic question. Accept my apologies if I did. Remember, there are NO stupid questions here. ;-)

Oh my, it does not list a location for you on your profile so I could not have known. There are many prolific quilters on this board from the UK. Hopefully someone will chime in here in a bit to help you out. Have you tried searching with Google? :D

Welcome, so glad you joined us. Since you're in the U.K. and no Joann's, Hancock's or WalMart, I think that your best chance of finding quilting supplies would be a quilt shop in your country or on online, but check and make sure they ship to your country. There are also people on this board who sometimes sell rulers, fabrics and other supplies, so check the classified on here.

I would pick up a UK quilting magazine. They often have lists of stockists. My favourite is Irish Quilting.
