This is a piece that my DM started. She has been gone 9 years now. I think that it may be one complete block for a Triple Irish Chain, but I don't have the pattern. If you have made made this quilt, please tell me if I am on the right track. I can figure out how to make the block, but I don't know anything about the finished quilt. How many blocks? I think it may be 2 across and 3 down, but I don't know. I really want to finish this quilt that my Dear Mom started, probably 12 or more years ago. It is the only thing I was able to have out of all of my Mom's things. Anyone who has dealt with step families and the death of a parent will understand.
This measures approximately 30".

Thanks for any help you can give me.

It doesn't look like a triple irish chain but I don't know what it does look like. Except pretty!

I don't know if it is a true Irish Chain - I see three types of blocks used in the overall block.

4 patch / 9 patch / 1 patch / 9 patch / 4 patch
9 patch / 4 patch / 9 patch / 4 patch / 9 patch
1 patch / 9 patch / 1 patch / 9 patch / 1 patch
9 patch / 4 patch / 9 patch / 4 patch / 9 patch
4 patch / 9 patch / 1 patch / 9 patch / 4 patch

If the finished block is 30 inches across, then each individual block measures 6 inches (6.5 with seam allowance).

So the solid 1 patch blocks (4 light, 1 dark) - finish 6 by 6 and are cut 6.5 by 6.5

The four patch blocks finish 3 x 3 are made from 3.5 by 3.5 inch pieces (I would strip piece with 3.5 inch strips)

The 9 patch block are made of 2x2 squares - strip piecing, I would cut the strips at 2.5 inches with the seam allowance.

Hope this helps.

Sorry - I misread and thought you didn't know how to build the block.

I think it would be pretty as a 3 by 3 layout or a 3 by 2 layout.

I think you'll end up with something that looks similar to an Irish Chain - Have you tried mocking up the block on paper or in an excel spreadsheet and placing them together. It will be a lovely quilt when done.

Cheers, K

I haven't done anything yet, I am just getting brave enough to work on it. I have made Irish Chains, and I thought this might be a variation of a Triple. It may have a complete different name. I just don't know.
It is a good idea to make a mock up. I don't have excel, but I could draw it. Thanks for the idea.

Why not just border it and use it as a wall hanging? Or a pillow? Just a thought...

I agree. It would make a lovely wall hanging for you to treasure.
