Why not make two small quilt blocks out of Xmas colors and stitch them together back to back. If you do the same pattern but different colors you could stitch the ditch to quilt and catch both sides right. A nice ribbon and bow and it could be gorgeous.

I make these, they are super easy and you can skip the cross stitch, just use really pretty fabric. Just a styrafoam ball, cut in half. Cut 2 circles of fabric and attach to ball by using a sharp knife and gently pushing the fabric into the flat cut part of the ball. Then hot glue together and put ribbon around the seam to hide it, then cut a piece of ribbon for a bow and the hanger, tie the bow, put hanger piece on the top, put the bow on top of the raw edges of the hanger, and secure with a pin with a colored ball at the top. I bought some of the pins with pearlized balls on the top.
