Need some advice for machine quilting and Applique work.

Just an update! I did it I am so excited ok so the quilting i did was straight lines it is a huge start for me. I am going to try to post a pic but long story short. I was given some material that looks like a flag. I used a multiflag background and then I did my machine quilting on the red/white stripes to look like stitch marks. Then get this!!! I made a diamond pattern in the star field that encases the stars!!! I am really thankful for all of the advice. I needed that push and I am still going to look up the machine quilting links on YouTube!! Thank you all again!

Oh I just figured out how to post a picture! Here is my quilt I started tonight and will finish in the morning. I am so proud that I did the machine quilting I know it is straight lines but this is huge for me!

I always used to SITD but now for the first time I'm doing circles [made by various size plates/mugs ] and feel very liberated altho will say that it was not easy coming out of my comfort zone; I might add that I ALWAYS hand quilt as I HATE using machine.
