I would definitely save any more drama and maybe buy minkee or at least something "pill proof". It is so frustrating, but look on the bright side....if you hadn't laundered it first the recipient would have had quite a disappointment after the quilt was washed.

Anyway, hope all goes well from now on and you get buckets of money when it's raffled. Do we get to have a sneak peek????? You know how we love pics. Happy quilting.

I've used JoAnn's flannel before with great success, but I've also had pilling. The last time that happened, I had intended to use the flannel for backing but used it as batting instead for a lightweight quilt. You could also use the pilling flannel as the inside layer on a rag quilt. (I make my rag quilts with 3 layers of flannel rather than using batting.) Good luck with your raffle, and sorry you had this problem.

How about disposible razors? That's what we used before the battery pill remover came along.

I too would take it back. If you decide to use Minkee, be aware that it is a very slippery fabric to work with. You may consider combining all 3 layers with a basting spray to make sure it doesn't get away from you. I use basting spray all the time and it washes out with no left over residue. OR, perhaps consider polar fleece. It is usually always on sale, somewhere. Good luck

I used to have a little hand held device that was for getting pills off of sweaters. Wonder if your local dept. store would have something like that.

My advice put this fabric aside , I doubt Jo'anns will take back fabric that has been washed, and get something else. There is no permanent cure for pilling.

I agree use something else. You could shave off the pilling but it will probably pill again with the next washing. I had this happen to me and have never used Joann's flannel again.

Agree ... afraid that if it pilled once, it will only continue to pill. At least that is my experience with fabrics that pill.

I would at least try to get the store to allow a return (even if it's a return for store credit), but if JoAnne's will not take it back, save it and use as batting ... providing it's a color that you can use for batting.

If I wasn't on a deadline, I could probably work with that idea. I think I will just buy another piece, so I can make sure I can get it done on time. I have never tried minkee, but I love a soft, snuggly back - that's why I usually use flannel. I have just never had this big of an issue with it before
Unfortunately that is the state of JoAnn's flannel these days. Just read the reviews on their web site.
