I found two bookcases at Staples that were just the right height and very inexpensive. I bought a solid core 36" door (smooth on both sides) and set it on top of the bookcases, with some felt in between. It's not attached, just resting on the bookcases, easy to take apart if necessary. I would cherish Mam Maw's treadle and not alter it in any way.

My friend used her glass top patio table, added PVC pipe to the legs, to raise it up and taa daa .But her table, had 4 legs that were in the middle, not legs on each corner but I don't know why that wouldn't work..............calla

I use my kitchen table for sandwiching and I used empty coffee cans ( the large ones) to raise it Just make sure they are the same size. I had some old metal ones I saved , But for my cutting table in my sewing room I had to use the new ones that are cardboard . They worked fine but that table is smaller and lighter than my kitchen table
