Default Need on way to quilt this

Am going to do feathers in the light sections. Was going to quilt in the ditch in the blue, but because she has used just one color I didn't think it would look good. Thoughts on how to quilt the blue areas?

Treat it as one piece and do a large motif.

Something with swirls, curls, circles or waves.

A frond of feathers, each swirling in the same direction, in the stepped up area of the blue block. Start from the center of the block so the feather stems connect in the center. That would add a lot of motion.

Ditto what quiltsRfun said. WHen I had a similar large area in a log cabin quilt with a horse them, I created a horse medallion using a dinner plate and smaller paper plate, then drew the profile of a horse. You might choose a theme that fits the quilt or the recipient. Quilt in dark blue if you're not confident, or a contrasting color if you are.

ok--i'd do something differently--I'd so the streaming feathers in the lighter areas and then do more of a geometrically motif in the dark so that the feathers steal the show.

Default Re help I asked on log cabin quilting

This is what I came up with for the center. Thanks for your suggestions. I knew in the back of my feeble brain that I needed to do something besides just stitching in the ditch. Will incorporate this into the solid blues on the sides of the quilt. Also as I said will be doing feathers in the light sections. Not quilting to heavy as she has used flannel for the backing. Thanks again for your help. You guys are the best. Have to wipe off the chalk marks still.

You could do a feather wreath in the blue areas if you want to keep the feather motif throughout your quilt. I think it would look nice and the roundness of the wreath filling that space.
