New Back Up Sewing Machine!
#12
Congratulations Marionsquilts! You have a wonderful machine. I have the twin SQ9185 that I also bought at Walmart. I put yours and mine together and looked at the pictures and specs and they are the exact same thing. Yours has the magenta color on front and sold in Canada and mine has the gold color and sold in the U.S. I LOVE this machine and sews so nice. I've been using mine steady since July. I love all the feet and 130 decorative stitches. I have tested most of the stitches and they turned out perfect.

Congratulations! I have 2 Brothers--one is from Amazon, but Walmart also carries it and the other is a 35 year old basic machine, both do a great job for me. I like the Brother on the shelf comment LOL! It's amazing how good a job these inexpensive machines do.
On using one for attaching binding. I have used both of my Brother machines to attach binding and find that with the Amazon/Walmart machine I often have to use a hand behind the presser foot to help the feed dogs move everything along because of the thickness unless I use the walking foot, then it manages nicely. The vintage Brother doesn't seem to need the help whether I use the walking foot or not.

I am thinking of this one. It has all the features even auto thread cutter. It will be perfect for retreats and workshops where I do a lot of paper piecing patterns.

My starter machine was a little Brother from Walmart and it is still my backup. I take it to workshops because it is so light. I wish it had a thread cutter; if it did, I'd probably leave it set up permanently for piecing as I really hate changing feet all the time on my Janome.
