Question Need help

How do you make a hexagon template? I've seen the wonderful tute by Riversong for oxagons, but I'd like a hexagon that measures a cutting size of 6" or 5 1/2". Please, can someone help or point me in the right direction?
TIA, Terry

Here's what I would do. Cut a square of paper cut from a piece of copy paper. Fold that square into half. Then fold that triangle into thirds. You must be very precise in your folds. What I do when cutting snowflakes is to fold the left third to the back and the right third to the front. press hard so your folds are crisp.

now, from THE POINT to the top of one edge lay a ruler and mark the 3" mark. Mark the 3" mark on the other edge. Draw a very fine, very straight line between marks. Cut along that line.

Lay/tape that paper to whatever medium you chose for your template and copy.

I use incompetech's graph paper generators- the hexagon is here. You can input whatever size you want in the hexagon size box (it's the length of the side). It will generate a pdf file that you can print and cut out. Just make sure you print at 100% (no page scaling or fit to page)

Take a compass, every school child has one. Draw a circle. Place point of compass anywhere on circle. Draw arc that crosses circle. Place compass on point where it crosses. Draw another arc. Repeat. You'll have six points on a circle. Draw lines between the points. Voila. Hexagon. Why does it work? Have to ask Pythagous.

If you have a 60* triangle ruler, six equilateral triangles make a 6 sided hexagon.
