    I only use the safety pins to baste my quilts......and I hand quilt without a frame. No straight pins for me.

    I replace mine when they get bent, I just can't stand getting stuck. I did that once and bled on the quilt, not good.

    Just in case you don't know this, your own saliva will erase your blood stains.
