When I made my bali wedding star quilt, I had 18 shades of red ... and had leftovers of course!

So I am trying to use all my reds, and came up with the idea of a new york block ... went to the store and bought some orange, yellow and cream ... what do you think of these colours together?

Cream will be the background, red the major colour and the orange and yellow for the "little" spikes

I have six or seven different blocks, so am thinking of doing a "mishmash" of blocks

I like your color choice. I goggled and found a sample of the yellow and red combo, https://www.google.com/search?biw=12..._5wHV1hj7mkOM:

The addition of a strong blue really makes the block pop, https://www.google.com/search?biw=12...yXa7X35KDTpBM:

I know neither picture has white in it.

Are you talking about the New York Beauty block?

I think that will look great.
Peggy Martin, who teaches a New York Beauty PP class on Craftsy, gave me some advice about using the strong colours in the NYB block. She said to use them in enough of the block that they are a unifying element in your quilt. Make sure you use them enough that they look like they belong. Just thought I'd pass that on.

Be sure to put your fabrics in the Start to Finish thread so all of us can see the results from your beautiful beginnings.

I love your colors so far!

Those are beautiful colors and all but the white from the warm end of the color spectrum. I might add a cool color, or as Elise1 posted, add a color that is not on the warm end of the spectrum. Since you're in Ontario, warm might be the look you want. I'm in Florida with a major heat wave, so I'd tone it down. So it depends on the look you want. The white might be enough. Time for colored pencils/crayons and a paper draft of the block?
