Time to celebrate overcoming procrastination
Hi all. Have had an enormous amount of things going on in my life, so between the many tasks, general chaos and stress, several things have taken a backseat but needed to be done. Not generally a procrastinator, but I just couldn't wrap myself around any further tasks and knowing I needed to finish, only compounded the stress. So pleased to report that this winter storm and being the last weekend in February, forced me to complete these tasks today. Happy to say I finished a flannel baby quilt this afternoon with the exception of burying threads and hand sewing the binding. Baby Girl will be due next month and I cannot wait to get the thing out of my house (the quilt!). HATED every minute of making it except for the fabric. Am retiring 3/30/12 and every day has been sheer hell. Needed to gather an enormous amount of documents, compose letters, etc. to convert my health insurance over before the end of March. Pleased to say I accomplished all this too today.
Have poured myself a well-deserved glass of wine, will put my feet up, watch the snow fall and blow and let out another sigh of relief. Onward and upward to the rest of my life and some new quilting projects that I actually want to make. Have to believe life will only improve from this point or at least I'll be more mellow to handle it all without all the added nagging tasks hanging over my shoulders.
Thanks for listening and may you all have a wonderful weekend with true peace of mind.

It is just amazing once you retire and get use to it, how the stress slowly leaves your body. Since I retired about 3 years ago, I have slowed down and am finally enjoying life (new hubby helps, he is so much fun)Most of my aches and pain and anger are gone, my health has improved and life is worth living. Stress can be a damaging thing to have in your life. Enjoy your retirement.

so glad to hear that you got your tasks done. be sure to post a pic of that quilt. i actually retired 3 times now... once at 55 - was too young to not be working so back to work, but only part-time overnights along with a full-time babysitting job. i got tired of working overnights and then my babysitting got cut back to 'occasionally'. so that was my second retirement. after a bit, i felt i still had some good working years left in me, so went to a great job. after 3 years, my body said... enough of getting up at 5:30 and fighting the traffic to work LOL. so after 2 years of my 3rd retirement, i'm still having the itch to go to a job... but i'm not going to do it

I know the feeling! The last quilt, for the life of me don't know why, I said I'd make for someone became a burden to me. I had to make myself sew it. I felt worse knowing it was there glaring at me when I sewed on something else. I made myself finish the quilt. I made a small block with the leftover fabric and pinned a note to it saying NO! I have it on my design wall where it stays. This it to remind me how I felt about feeling obligated to sew something for someone.

Sounds like you got everything ready in preparation for the big 3/30 retirement. Congratulations, on getting on with the best part of your life. Why was the baby girl quilt such a downer for you? Enjoy watching the snow fall, I miss the quiet that a good snowfall brings to the world.
