I think the blues would be great, would love to see it when done!

I make all kinds of quilts using all blues, my favorite color. Why not use a very light blue with a darker blue ? Works for me.

It all depends on what size of 9P you start with. Make your first block thru to the D9P stage. Then measure what size it is, along with allowance for the seams. Of course, this can be done on paper, though you may want to try a few combos to know what you like best.

Once you have that measurement on paper or IRL, then you can determine how many D9P blocks you need for the size of quilt you want. Graph paper can help you draw up your plan to scale, and help with the measurements of what you need.

Then do the math from there, according to how large you want the D9P portion? whether you want borders? how many? how large? whether you want it just as a bed top? or as a bed spread? tuck in around the pillows? foot board or not? etc.

The problem is ... all King size quilts are not the same, so you really do need to do your own calculations. I commonly make 100"x100" quilts for my double bed, yet many consider that a King Size quilt. So yes, not all King quilts are created equal!!

It doesn't sound silly. I made many quilts for a relative who bred pekes. Most smaller than 2'x2'. I'm sure kitty won't mind what color. The size you're talking about is rather quick to turn out. You can always make a second one with an accent color in it and see which one is preferred.
