I was appliqueing some flowers onto a row of fabric when one of them came completely off. RATS the piece s didn't stick. So my question is what now. WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THIS? I tried to reapply them but nope didn't work. So then I tried to add more bond but a major mess. I have a feeling I may face used too much starch. It just won't stick.

If I recall correctly, starch reduces the ability of the bond to adhere. Are you using a device with autocorrect?

What type of fusible are you using? Some stick better than others and starch can effect their ability to fuse.

Yes, lots of starch will keep some of the fusibles from adhering. Spray starch seems to lay on the surface more than if you dip starch.

There is a possibility that some to the background or the applique fabric was washed and softner was used. I've read that different bonding agents react with softners and sizing and they don't want to hold the bond. I'm now wondering if that might apply to starch too.

Starch and fabric softener do interfere with the bonding process. Try a glue stick and give it another shot.

I did not use softener when I washed the fabric. I do starch heavily and I use the vodka homemade kind. I have a dilemma here. Now what to do. Thank you all for the help.

Well, first lesson would be don't starch if you are going to fuse....but with your now dilemma .......can you dab that area with water to remove some of that starch....then you will probably have to make new pieces...again..no starch on the pieces.....

A tiny bit of glue may be all you need to stick the flower in place until you get it appliqued.

Elmers school glue. It will wash out when finished. Don't put to much on just put small dots close to the edges and let dry.
