Default OBW dumb question...

I was wondering if when all the blocks are done, are they sewed together by hand or machine?

Never a dumb question, you can't find out information if you don't ask. I machine sew mine, depends on if you like hand work or not.

mea,
Define "when the blocks are done." I only sew 3 of the 6 pieces together, making half blocks. That allows you to sew the half blocks together with a straight line, no set-in seams. You just have to use a design wall and proceed carefully to make sure pairs match up in the final product.

Fay is right. No need to sew by hand, but much easier if you only sew half together and then sew by rows or columns.

This is what I do -- I can't do much handwork anymore.

The blocks are sewn together by machine. If you have not already, check out Cutebuns tutorial for OBW on the QB. She gives and shows excellent instructions for making an OBW. One thing is for sure, you NEED a design wall or something to pin your blocks on when the three part pieces of the block are sewn together. The hardest part is the layout to achieve the block design that pleases you. Also, you may find that you will not use all of your OBW blocks. Some work and some don't. Have fun.

Thank you everyone! I made a stack-n-whack some years ago via a class and it had the corner triangles. When I joined this group a few months ago, I liked the OBW's without the triangles MUCH better but knew if hand-sewing was involved, there'd be no OBW in my future but as this can be sewn on machine, I'm in!! Thanks to all I will definitely check out that tutorial, Caroline. Thank you!

No question about quilting is dumb. We ALL started at the beginning, and at least YOU have the courage to ASK questions.
