The strips were a variety of sizes, 1 3/4", 1 1/2", 1 1/4" 1" , then corners were 2 1/2" , 2" & wider. They stated you could cut your strips any size you have. The star is formed by the beginning kite piece that is placed diagonally in the center. The strips added to each side of the kite. The kites were all the same fabric, the strips scrappy. Their block size was 7". I cut mine 10" and cut a 10" square out of a cereal box then cut my kite template out of that making the top corner 3" on each side. I like that size. Am working on this one- will show pictures later in the week

From your description, I gather that the episode shown here in Houston on PBS was not the show you caught in Michigan. Yours does sound intriguing, though!

Is it the String Me Along quilt where they use black and white polka dot for the kite shape? It's in the Sept. Oct. Issue. Strips are 3/4- 1-3/4 strips. She used 1-1/2, 1-1/4,and 1 " strips.

I, too, saw part of this episode. The strips are 1.5" wide. Blocks, I think, were trimmed to 7.5". The surgery patterns were created by rotating the block.

ckcowl, thank you for that information!! I too had planned to cut 10" squares! Curious if you are using the black w/ white dots shown in the segment?? This really looks like fun quilt. Thanks to everyone who responded re the "string me along" quilt !

Unfortunately, almost all of the quilt shows have been discontinued in our area...which is too bad. I "learned" to quilt watching Alex Anderson. Can get EB on the RFD channel, but right now they're reruns. The Fons and Porter program has been discontinued in the last month or so. Still can get sewing with Nancy but quilting classes are very limited viewing options. :-(
