I have used the fabric softener sheets that you put in the dryer to get it off. I believe they are Bounty or something like that.

next time, remember to use a teflon pressing sheet between your iron that project!

BUT if you do get sticky on it, the brown paper bag and SALT would have worked!

I had such a mess on my iron one time I used my 50% coupon at JoAnns and got the Rowenta Iron Cleaning kit. It was worth the money. Comes with a tube of cleaner and a couple of cloths for using it, and polishing up the sole plate. Took it right off.

I broke down and bought a product from my LQS for occasions such as yours. It's called iron-off and is a Dritz product in a 1 oz tube. I paid $5.99 for it, but shall be on the look out for it at Joanne's or the dollar store. It works great....saw it action at my quilt class, so I was sold.

I have used a fabric softener sheet before and it worked wonderfully and is alot less expensive than the iron-off sheets. Plus I normally have them on hand.

I use the dryer sheets, as well. I think the expensive iron-off sheets are actually used dryer sheets. They seem almost the same.

I keep a Scotch Brite Heavy Green Scouring Pad near my iron and whenever I get overzealous and get adhesive on my iron I just run my hot iron across it a couple of times giving one little burst of steam and the goop comes off. It hasn't scratched the plate either.

I use this all the time to clean my iron, works great just put a towel or some throw away frabic under the eraser and run your iron over the eraser. I do this when the is iron warm. I use a spray bottle with water to wet the eraser.
