I'm almost done with my Grandmothers Flower Garden quilt top! Now I have to decide how to finish it. I've seen where some leave it with uneven edges, and some others cut it off to make straight edges. If you've made one...how did you do yours? How did you do the binding? I'm so used to making the back alittle larger and folding over on the front. I'm afraid if I leave it uneven I will mess up on the binding after all that hand work. I haven't even decided what to use as backing! Any suggestions. Its red white and blue by the way. I'll have to hand quilt it, because I would never get it under my machine and hubby would have a cow if I paid someone to do it.
Ok...can't wait till you all give me some suggestions!

My MIL used a solid color backing on hers, with the binding being the darkest color in the top.

The one DH and I received as a wedding gift had pink as the color between the multicolor flowers and black as the lattice diamonds separating the various flowers. The backing was also pink and the binding black.

It was hand quilted 1/4" inside each hex.

We used it on our bed for over 20 years before it got too worn to be usable any more. Then I had it folded on a quilt rack until the house burned about 10 years ago.

The one my late husband had was made with muslin or the equivalent way back when. It was made over 80 years ago.

Thx everyone! Still don't know if I want the edges straight or not. Probably will tho since it seems too difficult to bind all those angles. I'm chicken! lol
