All good hints on getting it out. Make sure it is UNPLUGGED when you try any of them. If you have a small set of needle nose pliers you may be able to get them in there to grab the base of the filiment to push and turn.

Yep, that's what I still do if needed.

Sorry to hear of your trouble. My suggestion is what I have done when lights have broken off in thier socket I use a cut potato and push it into it and the turn and get it out. I do not know if you have enough room to do that in this case.

One thing you could try: Fill the hole with poster putty and then insert a pair of needlenose pliers, open them up and turn the blob of putty, the broken piece should turn with the putty, then pull all out at one time. On my FW the cover turns and come off from the base.

Dave McCallum sells a light bulb kit to help remove the bulb. Here is a link to it...scroll down almost to the bottom of the page:

I highly recommend his book, "Featherweight 221 and I". It has just about any information that you need to know to take care of your FW, it's easy reading and the drawings are detailed and easy to see (as opposed to the pictures in the manuals).

ETA: Have you looked over the section on this forum for Antique and Vintage sewing machine addicts...ooops, I meant enthusiasts? You'll find lots of help from the people who hang out in there... http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...thusiasts-f22/
