I cut my quilting squares and binding along the salvage. Since I buy 2 yd of fabric at a time, it's a nice large piece to work with instead of cutting salvage to salvage and having smaller pieces to work with. I do cut salvage to salvage when I have a small piece that's wider than long. It all works...do what feels right for you!

I cut my borders lengthwise on the fabrics because I don't like the pieced look. I also cut the binding lengthwise if I use the border fabric for the binding.

That's what I'd do.

It should work; I've done it before without any problems.

My friend ONLY cuts from the length of the fabric. She never has a wobbly or crooked border. She buys all her fabric and cuts the borders first, then uses the remainding fabric for the piecing. Ellen

I usually cut mine selvege to selvege and piece on the bias. That way the seam is diagonal and is less bulky. Occasionally I will use a lengthwise cut.
