Please don't feel stupid. I could have written your thread. I only learned of scrim recently and I learned about it on here and I am in my sixties. One of the nicest things about this blog (and there are many) is that we help each other. What a blessing!

It's just a covering on one side that holds the batting together. You don't have to worry about it being on there when you're quilting -- at least not that I know of.
