I have my grandmother's quilt. The binding is deteratering. I feel like I could put a new one on but do I need to remove the old first and then add new or can I just overlap them? thanks,

I would like to know, as well. My daughter has a quilt made by my MIL, and it needs a new binding. I'll be watching this post to find out. Thanks for the help!!

I have 2 that need to be done also. My plan is to remove the old and replace with new. The original is muslin and I'm going to replace it with muslin.

It's really up to you whether you remove the original binding or not. I think I would rather leave the original binding and just cover it with new.

I also have one to do. And was told leave the old and cover it.

I have had to do this before and I took the old one off. Good argument for stitching the binding down by hand!

My daughter still has her baby quilt that Great Grandma and Grandma made for her (25 years). I have had to rebind several times and have done both methods...either one works.

I would Definitely remove the old binding - the new one will look much nicer and will not affect her design or take away from it - just make sure the material blends in with her work and does not look "modern".
