Default old quilt top help needed, maybe

Someone at work gave me an old quilt top, who knows how many years it was stored in a plastic garbage
bag. I washed it, got most of the leaf debris out of it. The thread is rotten, it has some holes in it,here and there.
I don't want to seem ungrateful, but I do not want to mess with it at all. I just want it gone from my site.
Any suggesstions what I could do with it and not have a conscience?
I have considered cutting each block apart, but in all honesty, i don't want to do even that.
    thanks

I can understand you are thinking of the original piecer and not wanting to disrespect their work, but sometimes old is just old. If it had significant historical value there are restoration groups for that. However this sounds like a top that was poorly stored and ruined. You've given it your best effort, it's time to let it go. If you can't bring yourself to throw it away can it be cut up to stuff a pet bed for a shelter or is the fabric rotting?

Honesty is called for here. Tell the person at work that you tried to salvage the top, but it's no use. Offer to give it back if they want it (already in better shape than when you received it), otherwise toss it. You're not the first person who gave up on this top, so it's not really your responsibility.

I agree with Dunster. Then you can relax knowing the matter is settled. (no wondering
if you might be questioned about what you did with it)

There are people who like to buy "cutter" quilts -- which is what yours sounds like. They make stuffed animals out of them, doll quilts, etc. So I wouldn't toss it in the garbage, but either list it on eBay or donate to a place such as Goodwill (although I would check first to make sure they understand that some people do want to buy a "cutter" quilt).
