I"ve done the four patch posies from a tutorial on here. To me, it's a baby steps, beginner's version of OBW. I learned how to find the repeat, match the fabric, cut and put together the block, but just with squares instead of more challenging shapes.
It's an option if you are just getting your feet wet. Here's one I did with some fabric I had no other plans for...
